Parenting and life advice is thrown around all over the place, from the aunty at the gathering to the random Instagrammer. You feel like you're drowning in all the "do this to magically fix your entire life!" and "don't do this or else your child will be traumatized forever and you are ruined so you. might as well give up" advice. None of it makes sense. None of it makes a real lasting difference.  

You read all the parenting books out there. You think you might as well get a Ph.D in parenting knowledge at this point. But what's the point? You read and read and read...

Only to end up right where you began because every "expert" took you around for a loop in a crazy corn maze.

Human centered vs industrialist approach where we are just raising children to perform

Asslamu Alaikum, I'm Noor. 

An engineer and IT solutions/applications developer in another life, and a human centered design engineer, coach, homeschool mom, developmental and educational psychology geek at the present.

Back in 2017, I started hosting a support group for Muslim mothers who are invested in their children's upbringing and tarbiyah.

I opened my home and heart to women who are just like me, who struggle with the endless advice on raising children, on ways to educate children, on homeschooling resources, etc etc. I shared what I was learning and discovering on my journey, my mistakes and many insights gained from books, endless research on the wide variety of subjects and growing personal experience. We discussed seerah, lessons from the lives of the prophets and the profound wisdom in the Quran. 

Since then I have been observing, learning and unlearning, chasing the many questions and ideas with childlike curiosity. This led to a growing interest and passion for learning about the nature of children and it inspired me to explore and see things without the knowledge bias that so often traps us and keeps us blind to the obvious. I have since been exploring many different subjects that intersect with Developmental Sciences and Educational Psychology. It has been a beautiful journey and it is far from over.

In his famous quote, 'Give me a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world,' Archimedes is referring to the principles of levers and mechanical advantage. Mechanical advantage involves leverage of input to achieve a greater output. You know when you try to open a tin can with the end of a spoon, it's so much easier to open. That is mechanical advantage. If you try to open it directly, it's difficult, but then, when you use the end of a spoon that acts as a lever, it becomes way easier to open because it give you a mechanical advantage. Basically, what Archimedes was trying to say is when you place a lever in the right place, it can even move something as mighty as the Earth. 

As the leader of your family, you need to put your levers in the right place.
